RICHIE COMES 7th CYCLO CROSS NATIONAL CHAMPS
February 16, 2010
CycloCross National Championships report - St Anne's Park.
Things
have being going smoothly training wise and now, I started the race week with a
physiological test and got some positive results. Things were looking good for
the big race. With my base work done it was time to get the bike ready and give
it my best!. The cyclocross got a lovely tune up a few days before Sunday's
event, and Andras traveled with me to do race support/ mechanics. My goal was a
top 3 position and a great an excellent start around the first lap so as to
avoid crashes/ the usual carnage with a big field of cyclists. I stayed in 2nd
position for the first lap before drifting back to 3rd 4th 5th and finally 7th
where i blew up. The course rode incredibly fast, with tight fast technical
trails through the tree's and a killer steep running section up the old castle
ruin. Still, at the end the bike was covered in mud!
All in all it was
an excellent preparation race for the up and coming Mountain Bike season
starting in 4 weeks time in Montichiari, Italy. Harder, faster
training has started recently, which means i should be in turbo mode come the
14th March. The new bike even arrived, It's a 2010 Trek 9.9ssl
hardtail,
Thanks John Clarke/Trek
